When irreplaceable documents are water-soaked, they’re in an extremely fragile condition, however, very often, all is not lost! Steamatic experts professionally restore documents using either of two processes - desiccant dehumidification or freeze drying. Steamatic’s desiccant technology is unique. Documents are placed in Steamatic’s Desiccant Dehumidification Chamber, where massive amounts of airflow allow us to carefully dry the documents quickly. Speed is essential to prevent mold growth. Steamatic professionals are typically successful in using this technique and eliminating mold growth almost entirely.

What if drying doesn’t work?

In some cases, Steamatic will instead recommend freeze-drying. This process involves sending the documents to one of Steamatic’s regional centers of operation and is somewhat more expensive. However, the results are usually excellent.

All require different measures, but addressing the damage quickly is the best way to ensure successful restoration.
